In North Carolina, Progress Energy Carolinas has sent out an RFP, open until 12/15 for 40-75 MW in woody biomass-based power, from independent power producers, to come online in 2013. Biomass Magazine has a complete update on the project, which is occasioned by the drive to add renewable power capacity as North Carolina progresses towards its 12.5 percent renewables mandate in 2020.
PEC seeks to acquire 100 percent of the power, plus renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the producer. capacity.
